I am running for the Budget Committee because I believe in making responsible, sustainable decisions with taxpayer money. As a fiscal conservative, and as a Business Supervisor in the State Budget Office, I advocate for ensuring that we live within our means, avoid wasteful spending, and prioritize the long-term financial health of our community. However, I also understand that a balanced budget must reflect the needs of everyone, and that means investing in essential services like education and infrastructure. My goal is to find common ground and to make decisions that protect both our financial stability and our most vulnerable citizens, ensuring that no one is left behind as we work toward a prosperous future for all.
I was born in New England and spent most of my formative years between New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maine, and Connecticut. After graduating college in 2001 with a degree in Meteorology, I joined MIT and moved to Long Island, New York, to operate a remote field site. For six years, I collaborated with the FAA and the Department of Defense on advanced weather avoidance systems for air traffic.
In 2005, I married my wife, Sarah, and we soon started a family. In 2015, after a company restructuring, we decided to return to New England and settled in Hopkinton with our three children. We immediately fell in love with the town’s excellent schools, proximity to larger cities, and quintessential New England charm. Our children, active in the Hopkinton school system, participate in sports, theater, and the many recreational opportunities the town offers.
After moving to Hopkinton, I began working for the State of New Hampshire at the Treasury Department. This role provided an excellent introduction to government operations and helped me understand the nuances of public sector work compared to my 14 years in the private sector. From Treasury, I transitioned to the Division of Financial Data Management within the Department of Administrative Services. There, I gained extensive experience supporting state agencies by analyzing data, developing custom interfaces, and assisting in the management of payroll and HR systems.
In 2023, I seized the opportunity to join the State Budget Office as a Business Supervisor. In this role, I advise and guide 13 state agencies to ensure adherence to proper financial and management practices. My responsibilities include establishing, evaluating, and approving procedures for budget submissions, advising the Governor’s Office on budget requests, and evaluating the financial operations of agencies to ensure compliance with laws, rules, and accounting principles.
Recently, I have become increasingly interested in the operations of our town, from the Select Board to the Budget Committee. I’ve observed changes in our community and heard concerns about rising taxes, which have made it difficult for many residents to remain in Hopkinton. I want to get involved and represent our community to the best of my ability.
Given my financial and budgeting experience with the state, I believe I am well-equipped to serve on the Budget Committee. My goal is to bring principles of fiscal responsibility and strategic budgeting to our town, ensuring we maintain the programs and services that make Hopkinton special while addressing the financial challenges we face. I am committed to working collaboratively with residents and local leaders to build a sustainable future for our town.
